Lakeshore Records congratulates Moonlight on taking home three Academy Awards® Sunday night: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay (Barry Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney) and Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali)! 

The film features the critically-acclaimed Academy Award® and Golden Globe® Nominated Score by Nicholas Britell.  Moonlight has earned a total of eight nominations, listed below.  We are incredibly humbled and honored to be partners for the album release to this history-making film.

Academy Award Nominee Nicholas Britell On Composing Tools For Acclaimed ‘Moonlight’ Score!

Composer Nicholas Britell’s effective use of the chopped and screwed production technique is an essential element to the music of Moonlight, nominated for eight Academy Awards®, including Best Picture and Best Score. Nicholas and Director Barry Jenkins provide more insight to their unique vision and collaboration for the films music below.

Ableton Live has become a central tool in my compositional process. I love how amazingly intuitive it is to experiment with audio in Live. While composing the music for Moonlight, I utilized Live every step of the way – it enabled me to explore so many musical and sonic possibilities.” – Nicholas Britell

Moonlight: Exploring Three Themes Including A Revelation on Nicholas Britell’s Chopped and Screwed Track (Podcast) | Song Exploder

Talk about a superb podcast interview: Song Exploder recently spoke with composer Nicholas Britell about his Academy Award®-nominated score to Moonlight, and there was no holding back.  Nicholas’ explanation of what happened to the track, “Chiron’s Theme Chopped and Screwed (Knock Down Stay Down)” is a revelation.  Plus, an exploration of his other two themes, “Little’s Theme” and “Black’s Theme.”  We won’t spoil it for you — you’ll just have to listen to the interview now at Song Exploder.
