Lakeshore Records Pick Of The Week: ‘Zodiac’ Starring Jake Gyllenhaal

This week’s Lakeshore Records Pick of the Week is Zodiac, a soundtrack which features an eclectic mix of great musicians and groups from periods past: Johnny Coltrane, Donovan, Eric Burdon & The Animals, Isaac Hayes, Johnny Mathis, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, The Four Tops, Three Dog Night, Santana, Sly & The Family Stone, and more!  Directed by David Fincher (Se7en), this film (rent it on iTunes) takes its viewers back to the period between 1968-1969, when the infamous killer, “The Zodiac” terrorized the San Francisco Bay Area.

Starring Jake Gyllenhaal (Source CodeDonnie Darko), Mark Ruffalo (Reservation Road) and Robert Downey, Jr. (A Scanner Darkly), The interplay between the three characters: an obsessed cartoonist-amateur detective, newspaper reporter and Police Inspector, respectively, adds to the tension and frustration built by one of the country’s most infamous unsolved murder mysteries.

Jason Statham’s Chevzilla Is Back: Watch The Epic Battle Video! | Score By Mike Patton

To celebrate the release of Godzilla this weekend, Lakeshore Records has set loose this clip from Crank 2: High Voltage (rent it on iTunes) featuring Jason Statham as the biggest, baddest monster that ever lived: Chev Chelios.  The Crank 2: High Voltage soundtrack is scored by Mike Patton, the lead singer of Faith No More and the founder and lead singer of experimental bands Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, and Fantômas. Patton’s unique score captures the non-stop insanity of the film perfectly with its bursts of brutal sonic mayhem and odd glitchy sounds of broken toy instruments.

‘Fame’ Anniversary, Plus Watch Our Music Videos

Fame, the original 1980 film musical starring Debbie Allen, Gene Anthony Ray and Lee Curreri, portrayed the individual trials and tribulations of highly-gifted students who attended a performing arts high school in New York City.  The film also spawned a long-running TV show (1982) and a stage musical.  Lakeshore Records released a series of Fame soundtracks to the 2009 film remake (watch it on iTunes), which features a score album by Academy Award-nominated Composer Mark Isham (A River Runs Through It, Warrior), songs performed by Naturi Naughton (Lifetime’s The Client List) and a whole new generation of exceptionally talented performers.

Debbie Allen is the only cast member to appear in the original, TV and 2009 productions of Fame.  The internal struggle to “make it” and fight through self doubt is as relevant now as it was back in 1980, and you’ll hear it in the music on Lakeshore RecordsFame albums.

Now On iTunes: Download The ‘Gambit’ Soundtrack | Score By Rolfe Kent

Out now: download your copy of the new Lakeshore Records soundtrack, Gambit, from the movie starring Alan Rickman (Nobel Son), Colin Firth (Emperor) and Cameron Diaz (Focus Features 10: Sex Tape).  Scored by Rolfe Kent (Reign Over Me) and original songs by Robby Armstrong, the album exudes class and a sense of upbeat comedic rhythm reminiscent of films from decades past.  Is this a modern remake of the 1966 film by the same name?  Watch Gambit (watch it on vudu) and decide for yourself.  The music itself has a timeless quality that you will want to maintain on your regular playlist.
